Vintage life size plastic light up Santa. It is about 65" tall X 27" wide X 21" thick and the base is 18" X 24. There is a mark on his beard as seen in the pictures.

Other than that he is in great condition for his age. He is after all 52 years old so he is a little dirty and needs a cleaning. He lights up with a standard lamp light bulb. SOME HISTORY on this vintage Polk Bros.

These iconic Santas were given away as a promotion by the Polk Bros. Appliance Stores throughout the Chicagoland area in the early 1960's. Stores during the holiday season got their choice of either a jolly Santa or a Frosty the Snowman. The Santas were far and away the most popular choice.

Anyone growing up during this era in the Chicagoland area will tell you there was practically one of these displayed proudly on every block. Many were placed outdoors and endured many a harsh Chicago winter weather, and sadly few survived over the years because of the thin plastic (celluloid) they were made of. They were constructed with 2 molded shells (a front side and back) joined together along the seams with staples. These jolly Santas were manufactured by the L. In Chicago, IL in 1963 as shown on the circular label on the back.

They stand approximately 65 tall and are illuminated by a standard socket and light bulb hidden behind the back circular label that swings sideways to reveal a hole for easy access. The Santa also comes with its original snow mound plastic base that has footprints to set his feet in and keep him steady. THIS Santa is getting harder and harder to find as the years go by.

Not just because they are 50+ years old, but also because they are fragile, especially if they endured the elements.
