Vintage Pair of Mesh Bag Santa Claus Candy Container Santa Face Christmas

  

Vintage Pair of Santa Claus. This is a beautiful vintage pair of handmade drawstring Santa mesh bags for holding candy made with a soft fabric in a wonderful shade of mauve, matching colored mesh and decorated with cream trim. The face and feet both appear to be made of a bisque material with Santas face painted in wonderful rich detail along with his black shoes and red striped stockings. Santas face appears to glued into the hat and then sewn into the bag. These bags have no arms just pink drawstrings at the top for closing and a matching mauve hat in same material as the bag.

There is a gold cord attached at the. Front of the cap for hanging.

In great condition with minor wear from use. Please see photos for condition details. The best photo for the color is number 4 (hanging on the tree).

They measure 7 ¼ in height (from tip of cap to heels) and 3 across the width of the mesh. Not sure of the age of these bags as there are no tags and many similar ones that I found in my research show them with a celluloid face, made in Japan, circa 1930s-40s. Santas face looks exactly like the celluloid types but painted in better detail and look to be made of a bisque material. Also, the trim, mauve colored mesh and fabric make me think these were made later. These were from an estate of a huge lot of vintage Christmas ornaments.

This type of drawstring bags were often used as party favors filled with candy and/or other goodies or hung on a Christmas tree. This pair would look stunning on an old fashioned styled Christmas tree. I had a business for many years and have collected much over the years.
