Santa Claus Carving created from basswood. Size: About 15.50 tall - including wooden base.

Size: Santa is about 14.00" tall & 7.00" wide. Weight: About 4 pounds, 3 ounces. Oval walnut base, about 5.00 X 7.00. A Vietnam War veteran and gifted folk artist.

His trades included being a carpenter, a chimney sweep, a guitar player, and a gifted folk artist who painted and carved. Gary was a natural-born artist who could visualize things in a very accurate nature.

Whether it would be one of his paintings, or to hear him play a Duane Eddy song on his guitar, by ear. He was truly in-tune with Nature, and this was reflected in his life and work. Gary was such a stickler for detail, that it would often take him several days to create his limited folk art pieces.

It is estimated that he carved less than 50 Santa Clauses, and no two of them were exactly alike. This Santa Claus was hand carved and painted by Gary Eberhart in 1989. It is signed on the bottom of the coat, in the white area along the bottom.

It measures about 15.50" tall and is about 7.00" at its widest. Truly an intricate piece of folk art, carved from basswood, that weighs over four pounds. This is an excellent example of Gary's folk art, which he created with a small knife in "chip-style" carving. Notice the intricate detail of Santa's rosey cheeks.

The jolly expression on his face, brings a smile to the admirers of this piece. It has been displayed in a cabinet for over 25 years, and is in very good condition. NOTE: See my other auctions for more wood carvings by Gary Eberhart.
