Antique Bobble-Head Santa Claus Paper Mache Christmas Ornament Figure. 8.5 from the base. This family treasure was passed down from my father-in-law who was born in Connecticut in 1908. I suspect the figure is a Belsnickles Paper Mache Santa Claus made in Germany between 1870 and World War 1. They are hollow cast in two molds and covered with thin layer of plaster.
This one bobbles on a spring inside the figure. It is shown holding a sprig of greenery inserted in his right hand. Belsnickle is German word for Santa Claus.Reference book: Christmas Ornaments, Lights & Decorations by George Johnson.
