Antique Celluloid Face Pre WWII Plush Santa Claus Wind Up Musical 36 Swisstone

  
This Santa Claus hails from Switzerland. Specifically, he came from a small region of France (about 5,000 square miles) called Alsace-Lorraine ceded to the Germans in the 1870's. The region borders Switzerland and Germany. This Santa belonged to my grandparents whose parents hailed from that small region before emigrating to the United States. Santa does not date to the 1870's but fro the mid 1920's to early 1930's and was brought home from a trip before German occupation and before WWII broke out in Europe. Santa stands 36 tall from the bottom of his black leather boots to the jingle bell on the top of his red plush hat. Santa measures 27 from head to toe. Santa's outstretched arms span 24" and his round belly is about 28" around. His red plush suit and hat with white trim is in very good condition. Santa's black vinyl belt with silver metal buckle fit nicely around his portly waist. Santa's white mustache and beard appear to be faux white hair adhered to a white piece on heavy linen fabric. Santa's hair is thinning in places and is worn most at his temples where is is down to the fabric (see pictures) Santa's face is made of celluloid. The face is cracked above his left eye and down through his cheek (see pictures) The crack could be repaired with a careful application of adhesive used to repair celluloid. The musical movement was hand-made by the Swisstone Music Company in Switzerland. The company's name and location (Switzerland) are on the wind up key attached to Santa's Back. The musical movement works great and plays "Jingle Bells".
